hoo hoo hoo's gettin' crafty?

You probably guessed that it's me :) I am soooo excited about this project, I can't even tell you! Let's just jump right in. I'm participating in Celebrate Color for September, and I already turned something in to the yarn pool. I really wanting to do something fun for the embroidery pool. (HELLO, did you see the prize for the winner??? A whole amazing alphabet embroidery set, that I can see myself slaving over. It must be in my nursery!) I love owls, and I had thought about doing a 13 project piece with an owl or something, but then inspiration struck like lightning!

One of the blogs I follow and love is called My Owl Barn. It is an accumulation of all thing owl: art, toys, books, costumes, etc. Well the other day when I was browsing my blog feed, I saw this...
How cute right??? It is an owl by a Belgian stylist and illustrator called Le Point Rose. I fell instantly in love, and knew that I had to make myself an embroidered owl. (I ended up making two!)

Submission 1- Artie
I hand stitched all his details. I used split stitch, running stitch, french knots, and lazy daisies and got something really adorable :) Now let me overload you with lots of pictures, lol.
(p.s. his name is Artie because I watched pretty much the whole first season of Glee while I was making him, and Artie is my favorite ever! case in point)

Submission 2- Hedwig
I wasn't watching Harry Potter when I made this one, but it really reminds me of Hedwig (Harry's white owl). I used split stitching, satin stitching, and lazy daisies... wait only three stitches... yeah I guess so. I like how this one is a bit more realistic looking. AND I love how the lazy daisies look like feathers!

So there's my super secret exciting embroidery project... projects... Please wish us luck! Love Artie and Hedwig :)

(p.p.s. there will probably be more of these in my future because they are kinda addicting!)

thank you thrift store

dear thrift store that is right across from my work,
thank you for having great stuff. especially today! You're the best,
love, Clare

Gorgeous Asian mugs!
The best part is they have built in tea strainers. I've been seriously considering buying some online, but HA! now I don't have to! They were only $2 a piece. I made out like a bandit!
My little owl collection is growing.
I added this cutie patootie today :)
And a quesadilla maker, hooray!
True story- five years ago when we were registering for our wedding, Justin and I put a quesadilla maker on our list. Like lots of people, we hacked into our registry list online (by pretending we were going to shop for ourselves) to see what people were buying us. Someone bought us a quesadilla maker, but they NEVER gave it to us. I've kinda been waiting for someone to give it to us for Christmas or something, but NO! Someone bought it, and I guess decided to keep it. Worst of all, they bought it off our registry, so no one else got us one. I've been wanting one for 5 years, and I finally broke down and got one.

Changing Leaves- Celebrate Color

I've been crocheting these hand-warmers since I first found the Celebrate Color pool. I came up with the design myself. I wanted them to be feminine and fun. I used a Yarn Bee Snowflake Wool Blend for the body. My camera distorted the colors a bit. There are variations of red, yellow, orange, and brown. This yarn reminds me of the changing leaves. My favorite things about fall are the crisp cool air, the changing leaves, and finally being able to wear knits! I'm so glad these are finally finished! I've been dying to wear them! I hope you enjoy them as much as I do :)
 I love fall :)
I love big buttons :)
I love pumpkin spice tea :)
I think these hand-warmers might be slightly magic, lol. When I went to take Journey out for her nightly walk we found this beautiful, stately toad. I'm calling him Rupert, and I can't wait to show him to my class tomorrow. (Don't worry, he'll be released tomorrow after the kids ooo and ahhh a bit.)

There is a matching cowl/scarf/wrap in my future... as soon as I make up my mind on the design :)

dreamin'

sooo, sometimes on a Saturday night I watch girlie movies. Guess which two I picked tonight? Tangled and The Princess and the Frog. I love the music in these movies! Plus I'm a big enough kid to admit I love the stories, the magic, the love, and the fabulous dresses... Both of these movies are about dreams. Rapunzel's dream is to see the lanterns, and Tiana wants her restaurant.

I've got a few dreams right now. I'm gonna totally geek out on you a second and put a star up. Make a wish on the star if you've got a dream!
I wish that I will be a published children's book writer, and I wish that I'll have babies to read my books to soon :)

What's your dream?

Celebrate Color- Fall Inspiration

I love fall. It's my favorite season :) When I think about fall, I think about walking thorugh a Gustav Klimt painting. Gold, red, orange, jewely blues, greens, and purples... lovely! And who can forget the earthy browns :)
This is an AWESOME adaption of Klimt's The Kiss. Here is a picture of the original.

P.S. I have a theory about favorite seasons. It seems that most people's favorite season is the season their birthday is in? I'm a September baby, so it's true for me. Is this true for you?

five days worth of slacking

day 22- trees
day 23- sunset
Sunsets are pretty lame here in the Midwest. You know where they aren't lame? Sanibel Island, Florida. That's why Justin and I decided to get married there at sunset five years ago :) so romantic!

day 24- a smile
day 25- sun flare
I didn't even know what sun flare was. I like it! I like all the pretty colors it makes!

AND FINALLY!!!

day 26- something old
My friend Amanda picked up these fabulous 70's owls for me. I can't wait to hang them in our nursery!
